As architect for the revitalization project from 2004 to 2007, AK Murphy attained a Victoria Civic Heritage Trust Grant for design work, as well as a successful Heritage Adaptation Permit, Heritage Tax Incentives Program Application granted for $1 million dollars, and a Victoria Civic Heritage Trust Grant of $50K, and various building permits.
Many development options combining strata units and hotel rooms were explored for the 30,000 sf building. A first round of minor renovations gave a quick facelift to the rooms that were last renovated in the 1970's. Preliminary design options for the Main Floor and Basement were explored. New entrances and re-instated floor-to-ceiling main floor windows reveal the hotel's interior to the street and help to animate the streetscape.
