Designed and submitted to the Canadian selection committee in 1994 for the Venice Biennale. The geography of Canada was abstracted to create a bridge spanning over a canal in Venice. A steel surface (cross country railroad) links one side to the other. The small-scale geography of the maritimes, central industrial hub of Ontario and Quebec, vast space of the prairies, and massive wall of the Rocky mountains, as well as the search for the north-west passage are depicted in the composition. Quotes from early explorers describing the terrain recall the waves upon which they sailed.
